Can I Use Weed Killer On My Brick Paver Patio?

It’s that time of the year when you’re ready to spend more time on your patio and enjoy the beautiful weather. Unless of course your patio is being taken over by weeds and grass.

Many homeowners ask Paver Protector if it is ok to spray weed killers like Round Up or Spectracide to kill the weeds on their brick paver patio or driveway. The answer depends on what type of weed killer you are using and what type of brick paver you have.

Fortunately, most weed killers are safe to use on brick pavers but there are a few that do stain the surface of the pavers. We suggest spraying a hidden area of the patio first so that you can see if there are any stains once dry. If there is no discoloration than you’ll be fine to spray the weeds and grass in your brick patio.

Applying an herbicide will kill what is currently growing but will not prevent future weeds and grass from growing. Once they have made their way into your brick joints weeds will always come back. The only way to remove and prevent weeds for a longer period of time is to thoroughly powerwash the joints, install polymeric sand and for the extra barrier or weed resistance, seal the brick patio with a joint stabilizing sealer. If relaxing on your patio sounds like more fun than working on your patio just contact Paver Protector and let us make your brick patio look new again.
