While there are many reasons to have your brick pavers sealed, below are 5 of the top reasons our customers decide to seal brick driveways and patios
UV Protection- With time all pavers will fade just like anything else that’s left in the sun day after day. Pavers are made of cement with a pigment which gives the color, sand, and aggregate/small gravel. As pavers start to fade you see of the less color and more of the tan or grey colored sand and aggregate giving pavers a washed out faded look. Paver Protector’s sealers protect against harmful UV rays like sun screen does, greatly slowing the fading effect and preserving the color of your pavers.
Enhanced Look- Paver Protector uses 2 types of sealers. One is a wet look and the other a satin look. The wet look sealer gives your pavers the appearance they have after a rain. The wet look really makes the color in your pavers stand out. Old faded pavers can be brought back to life and new pavers will have a very bold appearance. Our wet look brick paver sealer has sheen with certain light but is not high gloss. The satin look sealer preserves the color of your pavers and gives a nice low gloss look. This is great protection for your pavers if you do not want to alter the current color but want the benefits of sealing.
Stain & Salt Protection- It doesn’t matter if you have a paver driveway, patio, walkway or parking lot. You will get stains on your pavers. Our sealers help to protect pavers from staining. Stains such as oil, grease, coolant, food or drinks are kept closer to the surface of the paver for easy cleaning. The sealer prevents stains from absorbing into the many pores of pavers. Paver Protector’s sealers are also resistant to rust stains from furniture, grills, hard water irrigation and fertilizers as well as natural stains from leafs, bird droppings and atmospheric dirt. Ice melting salt is very damaging to concrete surfaces, having a coat of brick paver sealer will give an extra defense to the harsh winter chemicals. (see our blog post on the Damaging effects of salt on brick pavers)
Easy to Clean- The sealers we use keep stains on or close to the surface of the paver making them easier to wipe and clean away. Even bird droppings that once had to be scrubbed or power washed away are now easily sprayed or wiped off.
Moisture Resistant- Sealing pavers prevents moisture from leaching through the pavers and into the base of the paver system. See our article on the effects of moisture in the base of a brick paver system. With sealer water stays beaded on the surface and runs off with the pitch of the pavement system, the way it was meant to. With less water held in the pavers you also have less risk of mold and algae growing on the surface of the pavers. This not only improves the appearance but also wards away health risks.
